Family-owned · Charlotte NC · Since 1978

Charlotte's plumber, since the year your house was built.

Two generations. One license number. Five trucks that show up when we say they will.

Pipe burst at 2am? We answer.

One of our techs is on call every night, every Sunday, every holiday — including Christmas. When you call the emergency line, a real person picks up, asks two questions, and dispatches a truck. We are not a call-center routing your call to whoever bids highest. We are the plumber who is going to be in your kitchen by midnight.

Meet the owner

Travis Mercer · Master Plumber · 2nd Generation

Travis grew up riding shotgun in his father Wendell's 1978 Ford pickup, the one with the hand-painted "Mercer Plumbing" on the door. He took his master-plumber exam at 28, came home, kept working out of the same brick shop on South Boulevard. In 2014 his father handed him the keys to all five trucks.

"My dad used to say a plumber's name has to mean something in his town, because his name is the only marketing he can afford. We've been the Mercer name in Charlotte plumbing since 1978. We don't intend to stop now."

Today Mercer Plumbing & Drain runs five trucks with eight techs — three of them apprentices Travis is bringing up the same way Wendell brought him up. His wife Diane runs the books. The shop hasn't moved in forty-seven years.

Where we work

Charlotte and the inner ring.

We dispatch from South Boulevard. Average response time inside I-485: 47 minutes. We answer calls from Mecklenburg County and the surrounding counties — Cabarrus, Union, Iredell. If we can't get there same-day, we say so when you call.

Financing

A $4,200 sewer-line replacement does not have to wait until Tuesday's payday.

We partner with GreenSky and Synchrony Home Card so the conversation at the kitchen table is about whether to fix the pipe — not whether the household budget can carry it this week. Soft-pull pre-qualification, transparent terms, no high-pressure script.

Called at 11:30pm on a Sunday. Sewer backing up into the basement. Andre answered, asked two questions, dispatched. Truck was in our driveway in Plaza Midwood by 12:18am. Quoted us before he started. Did not try to sell us anything we didn't need. This is the plumber my dad used.

Old cast-iron sewer main collapsed under our 1924 craftsman in Dilworth. Got three quotes — Mercer's was the middle one. Travis came out personally to look. They trenchless-lined what they could and dug only what they had to. Came in $300 under the estimate.

Water heater quit Tuesday morning before work. Called from the NoDa Starbucks. They had a 50-gallon installed by 4pm. Marcus showed me the old anode rod, the new tank specs, the warranty paperwork. No upsell. Just plumbing.

Pipes don't care what time it is. Neither do we.
